Artist Book
Both the structure and the content of this artist book is driven by the motivation to capture the dominant feelings of being 20 and in college. While certain aspects of my adulthood have began to materialize, much of my life is determined by conflicting feelings of joy and anxiety, or hope and nostalgia. To organize the book thematically, each feeling is granted a distinct color palette that the entire section is gradated upon. The booklets are bound together metaphorically through a central collage and physically through elastic detachable bands that are intended to allow the viewer to organize and rearrange the entire book as they see fit. The influence behind the collage stylistically draws upon Dada era collages and scrapbook style pieces, while the content is composed of references pertinent to my life within this semester. For example, I was inspired in Art History by Mary Cassatt's depictions of girlhood and therefore decided to include elements of her work within the collage. Ultimately, the book is intended to piece together and create an experience that mimics the various emotions ruling over my own headspace.
